 Admission Requirements for the MBChB Programme in Kenya: Detailed Guidelines

To be admitted to the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree programme or its equivalent in Kenya, candidates must meet specific indexing requirements. These criteria ensure that applicants possess the necessary academic foundation and proficiency in English language essential for medical education.

Admission Criteria:

  1. Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Holders:

    • Minimum university admission requirement: C+ (plus).
    • Average of B plain in each of the following cluster subjects:
      • Biology
      • Chemistry
      • Physics or Mathematics
      • English or Kiswahili
  2. Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) Holders:

    • Minimum of two principal passes in Biology and Chemistry.
    • Subsidiary pass in either Mathematics or Physics.
  3. International Baccalaureate (IB):

    • Minimum grade 5 or above in the International Baccalaureate.
  4. Diploma Holders in Medical Sciences:

    • Minimum "O" level Division II pass or C+ mean grade in KCSE.
    • Credit C+ pass in the cluster subjects.
    • Completion of a three-year diploma with at least a credit pass from a recognized medical training institution.
  5. Proficiency in English Language:

    • All candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the English language, which is crucial for academic success in medical studies.
  6. Holders of Degrees in Biological Sciences or Equivalent:

    • Subject to passing the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
  7. Other Equivalent Qualifications:

    • Candidates with qualifications deemed equivalent to those listed above from recognized institutions may also apply, subject to approval by the respective institution's Senate.
