An Internship qualifying examination is a
written or oral examination or both which determines the eligibility for a
foreign trained graduates who hold a degree recognized by the Council to

2. What about the Pre – Registration Examination? |
Pre- registration examination is a written
or oral examination or both which determines the eligibility for registration
of a foreign trained student (Kenyan or non - Kenyan), as a practitioner.
This examination is administered to graduates upon completion of their

Written Multiple Choice
Questions (MCQs) and Practical’s(Clinical) |
4. When does
the Council administer exams to foreign
trained doctors? |
Three (3) times a year. The
months of January, April and September

5. How long are the exams (in
terms of time)? |
Written takes 3 hours Practicals depend on cases
assigned. |
6. Is there a pass mark? |
Yes, 50% aggregated. One must
also get 50% in Clinicals. |
7. When/after how long will the exams be out?

sitting for exams. |
8. What if one fails the exam
and would like another chance? |
Candidates are allowed a maximum of only
three (3) exam attempts. All appeals are addressed to the Chairperson of the

9. What happens after passing the exams? |
a)
Candidates who pass pre –
registration exam are then required to apply for Permanent Registration. b) Candidates
who pass Internship Qualifying Exam will be licensed to proceed for
internship training after being duly posted to various Internship Training
Centers by the Ministry of Health. |

administered? |

Written is often taken at the
Councils premises. b)
Practical (Clinical) exams
admitted mainly from Kenyatta National Hospital (Medical) and University of
Nairobi (Dental) Hospital |

14. Can a Foreign doctor come to
the country to serve as a General practitioner or a specialized doctor? |
Yes. This is determined by
their qualifications. The however need to apply for
Registration as a Foreign Practitioners and acquire Practice License online |
15. Can foreign doctors open
their own facility in the country? |
No. They are supposed to
be on employment only and practice at the facility indicated on their license

16. Are Doctors on internship
required to comply with the CPD Requirements? |
• Yes. Every doctor has to comply with the CPD Requirements of
acquiring a minimum of 50 points within a calendar year. • Since Internship is a full time training period, the doctors
are expected to upload the internship completion certificate in their
Integrated CPD Management System available here portal upon registration. This earns them 50CPD Points. • More details on CPD are available here |
