Registration Requirements for Nurses/Midwives Trained in Kenya:

Nurses and midwives trained in Kenya must follow specific steps for registration and licensure:

  1. Application Process:

    • Submit result slip, complete the online application, and make necessary payments for registration and licensure.
  2. Categories of BScN Graduates:

    • KRCHN (B) to BScN Graduates: Direct application for registration without requiring internship.
    • RN/M to BScN Graduates: Complete a 15-week self-sponsored internship in community health nursing.
    • RN to BScN Graduates: Complete a 27-week self-sponsored internship in midwifery and community health nursing.
    • Basic BScN Graduates: Must complete a 1-year internship (MOH or self-sponsored). Internship completion is required before registration, contingent upon passing the NCK Licensure Exam.

Registration of Nurses/Midwives Trained Outside Kenya (TOK):

Nurses and midwives trained outside Kenya (TOK) must fulfill the following criteria:

  1. Minimum Entry Criteria:

    • Pathway 1: Meet NCK minimum O-level mean grade with cluster subjects.
    • Pathway 2: Meet NCK minimum O-level mean grade without cluster subjects.
    • Completed the nursing/midwifery programme, registered, and licensed by the country of training, presenting original certificates and licenses.
  2. Application Process:

    • Officially apply, attach required documents for verification, and pay prescribed fees.
  3. Verification Process:

    • NCK verifies the nursing/midwifery cadre with the foreign institution and board/council of the country of training (applicant facilitates this process).
  4. Licensure Exam:

    • Apply and sit for the NCK licensure exam as per the exam timetable.
  5. Clinical Orientation:

    • Upon passing the licensure exam, undergo 12 to 24 weeks of clinical orientation.
  6. Final Registration:

    • After completing clinical orientation, make an online application for registration and licensure.
